Two weeks ago, Sanchez suffered a knee injury in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United, but he persevered and started the next match against Everton.

However, in the latter minutes of the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park, the Spaniard was replaced by Djordje Petrovic, who made his Blues debut, as he hobbled off the field.

Sanchez had played every minute of the season up to that time, making 19 appearances, giving up 26 goals, and maintaining five clean sheets.

However, the £25 million summer acquisition from Brighton is now expected to miss some time with an injury, and concerningly, not even Pochettino is certain of the 26-year-old’s exact length of absence.

‘It is an injury that’s going to be for a few weeks, I don’t know if two, three, four, five or six,’ the manager said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle on Tuesday.

‘We will assess day-by-day to know how to follow it. His recovery will depend on him and the reaction of his knee and it is difficult to say in two or three weeks but we hope [he is back] as soon as possible.’

Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.

Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.

This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
