One club in the Italian Serie A that would be looking forward to this winter transfer window is Lazio as the Aquile were barred from making any signings in the last summer transfer window and with injuries plaguing them currently, they’re going to have a chance to fortify their squad.

Under Claudio Lotito, the club has been running on a right budget which seemingly saved the club from the abyss in 2004 but it also means that they’re known as the underachievers even when Simone Inzaghi won them the Coppa Italia title but the feeling remained that they could have achieved more.

Now, the “market blockage” that derailed Maurizio Sarri’s plans in the summer has been dissolved and for the first time in what feels like an eternity, they can spend and their Sporting Director, Angelo Fabiani will be able to start negotiating for players to be signed.

This also means that they no longer have to wait for a star like Guendouzi or Nuno Tavares (who is currently being wooed by Saudi’s Al-Ittihad) to leave before they can sign a new player and this will allow the club to build a bench and help get Sarri’s project officially underway.

Hence, the January window won’t just be about buying players; it will be about buying hope. After years of looking at the price tag first and the talent second, the Eagles are finally ready to spread their wings and they already have their first target lined up which will soon be made official.

There are reports that they already have an agreement to bring in former Serie A and Napoli star, Lorenzo Insigne back to the league after his sojourn in the MLS but they’re most likely not going to stop their with reinforcements needed in the defense and midfield area too.

Hence, they will be looking towards the second half of the season with renewed optimism while hoping to be more consistent in their performance and results and probably push for an European spot at the end of the season after missing out in the 2024-25 season.

In a related development, former Lazio midfielder, Luis Alberto believes that the club is showing clear signs of improvement under Sarri, despite the difficulties that have shaped their current season where they’re currently 8th on the Serie A table after 16 matches played so far.

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Fanpage the Spaniard admitted he was not surprised by Lazio’s struggles, suggesting internal issues were always likely to surface. However, he insisted performances have been more encouraging than results might suggest.

“I’m not surprised. I knew something like this could happen. I speak often with Cataldi, with Patric, with Mario Gila, with Pedro. I’ve also spoken to Taty, but as I always say, they can’t do much, the situation is what it is.” The Lazio start who joined Al Duhail recently said.

Despite that context, the former playmaker pointed to Lazio’s resilience in recent matches as evidence of progress and he then highlighted games where Sarri’s side remained competitive even in adversity, underlining a growing mental strength within the squad.

“I’m sure they could easily have won or drawn the match in Milan,” he continued. “Anything could have happened. I also watched them against Parma when they went down to nine men they stayed in the game and in the end they won. Overall, I think they’ve improved a lot.”

Luis Alberto’s comments reflect a broader belief that Lazio’s underlying performances are stronger than their league position suggests, with Sarri’s work beginning to show despite an uneven season and off-field complications and that theory will be put to the test this weekend against against Udinese away from home.
