Timo Werner’s time at RB Leipzig appears to be coming to an end, even though he has recently featured in limited cameos off the bench.

More Details

Following rumors of a potential January transfer to Major League Soccer, Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, has publicly suggested that the former Chelsea forward should pursue a move elsewhere to secure regular first-team football.

“He has always conducted himself professionally and correctly,” Schäfer told Sky after Leipzig’s 1-3 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

“That said, I believe that if he wants more minutes – and we’ve discussed this extensively with him – it may be time for a change.”

Since Werner’s contract expires at the end of the season, the final choice is his to make.

“If he decides to stay, we will continue working with him as normal, just as we have done so far, because we respect contracts,” Schäfer stressed.
