Ligue 1: Xherdan Shaqiri Joins Olympique Lyonnais

Olympique Lyonnais have announced the signing of Swiss international midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri from Liverpool, for a fee of €6M, with a maximum of €5m in bonuses.

Shaqiri aged 29, originally from Kosovo has 96 caps for the Swiss national team, with whom he has participated in 3 World Cups (2010, 2014 and 2018) and 2 European Championshis (2016, 2021), having eliminated France in the Round of 16 on June 28 in Bucharest.

Having passed his medical today in Lyon, Xherdan Shaqiri has signed a 3-year contract with Olympique Lyonnais, until June 30, 2024.
With more than 400 matches played in four European leagues (Switzerland, Germany, Italy, England) and a versatile player, able to play on the flanks or behind the forwards, Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to fill the void left by Memphis Depay.

After having played a high-flying first period with a double from Moussa Dembélé and a magnificent bit of team play finished by Lucas Paqueta, the team conceded twice at the end of the match as Clermont drew level in stoppage time.
