Lionel Messi May Fail At PSG For These Seven Reasons

Written By Patrick Echatah

Lionel Messi is from Barcelona, he is Catalan, and he is Argentine; being Parisian or anything else has no place in his heart and flesh. Only his bank account became Franco-Qatari after he joined PSG. Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona last summer but still doesn’t seem to have settled at the club. In 14 appearances, he has scored just two goals in Ligue 1. However, he has scored five goals in six matches in the Champions League.

Many people thought the arrival of the 7 time Ballon D’Or winner would lift the feeling around Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi hasn’t made the kind of impact that most fans are hoping for. In fact, in my opinion, Messi is likely fail at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, recent performances has shown that Lionel Messi is indeed a shadow of his former self. The Argentinian talisman has managed just seven goals and eignt assists in 21 appearances this season.

HERE ARE 7 REASONS WHY LIONEL MESSI MAY FAIL AT PSG.

-Lionel Messi was subjected to a variety of treatments during his adolescence in order to grow and reach a normal size, including Levothyroxine, which has a significant risk of fractures as a side effect; this risk is visible in Lionel Messi, who has been injured 15 times in the last five seasons, which is significant, and more than 5 injuries in the last two seasons, including a foetal fracture. Lionel Messi is 34 years old, his body is frailer, and he lacks Cristiano Ronaldo’s body mechanics. Lionel Messi’s physical career is coming to an end, and he will be linked to his friend Neymar, who is still injured. It may rumble at the Parc des Princes and the French press, and if the criticism becomes too strong for Lionel Messi, he may return to Catalonia.

–Another reason for Lionel Messi’s likely failure in Paris Saint-Germain, and notably Messi’s entrance, is that Neymar left Barcelona to avoid Messi and his oppressive role at Barça. Despite winning titles and the Golden Ball with Barça, Neymar’s balance sheet is small after three seasons with PSG. There was no European championship, and the golden ball was not awarded. The debate is whether Lionel Messi joined PSG to help Neymar win titles and a golden ball, or vice versa. If Neymar fails to win, he will get bitter and enraged, resulting in strained locker room relations, and the entire professional football world knows that a locker room with problematic relationships delivers unsatisfactory sports outcomes.

–The third reason is sporting; PSG is a star-studded team that has yet to win a UCL trophy and, moreover, has just lost its national title to a fantastic Lille side. There are some huge egos on this PSG team. What are the reactions of Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Paredes, Verratti, Icardi, Drexler, and others? Will they play for Messi or for themselves, for their own stats and glory? Will Pochettino be able to lead his squad and get the best out of them? Pochettino shifts to a different domain with a different budget, from the truth of an author’s film to a Hollywood mega-production, knowing that he has recruited the best of teams without stars.

–Lionel Messi learnt all of his skills at FC Barcelona’s renowned La Masia facility. Stars like Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and others were born there, players who embodied the ‘tiki-taka’ style of play for which the Blaugrana is known. Messi spent his whole career playing that style of football, and he has received numerous accolades as a result. At FC Barcelona, he had positional freedom that he does not have at PSG. Under Mauricio Pochettino, his new club’s attacking setup is different. Messi has mostly played on the right wing of a front three, with the exception of a few occasions when he shifted in behind the striker. PSG is trying to find a rhythm in the final third, as evidenced by their goalless stalemate with Marseille.

–Getting the players to work together, no matter how excellent they are individually, is a different story. While PSG has put together a star-studded group, there is a lack of synergy among the world’s top players. On paper, a front three of Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi is fearsome, but the trio has yet to shine in domestic tournaments. Messi has struggled to form a bond with his new colleagues. It’s reasonable for every player to take some time to get to know his or her new teammates. Until recently, Lionel Messi has been surrounded by footballers who have learnt and matured with the same mindset as he has. It’s a question of when, not if, Messi forms a bond with his new teammates.

–Even now, the blazing argument between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rages on. The two football icons are frequently contrasted, and one argument used against Messi was that he always played in his comfort zone. Messi had previously been a one-club player, but Ronaldo had excelled with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, winning league titles with each of the three clubs. Messi has had to rethink and rediscover himself as a result of a change in team, league, teammates, and overall culture. Messi is taking his time finding the back of the net as he adjusts to new tactics, a new philosophy, and a new league.

–It is safe to assume that any Ligue 1 opponent’s primary priority is to prevent Lionel Messi from scoring. Despite the fact that teams in La Liga face similar challenges, Messi’s situation in Ligue 1 is unique and far more difficult. PSG has failed to score twice in Messi’s four appearances in Ligue 1 for the club. On top of that, they’ve only won two of the four matches, which is disappointing by their standards. Teams are cautious of the threat PSG and Messi offer, so they mark and push the Argentine legend aggressively. However, the club’s and Messi’s lack of togetherness is working against them.

It remains to be seen whether Lionel Messi will fail in Paris Saint-Germain; other players of other nationalities have shone brightly at the Parc de Princes Stadium, so why is a player of Messi’s caliber struggling in France? Messi’s most recent penalty miss, against Real Madrid, encapsulates his entire season.
