Liverpool Crisis Deepens As European Duo Join Injury List

Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, has announced that Cody Gakpo will be unavailable for several weeks, meaning the forward did not travel for the Champions League fixture in Italy against Inter Milan.

More Details

This absence exacerbates Liverpool’s forward line concerns, as Mohamed Salah was not included in the traveling squad after a media outburst following the draw with Leeds United, and Federico Chiesa is unwell.

Slot specifically mentioned Chiesa’s unexpected illness in his pre-match conference, stating he does not expect the player to make a quick enough recovery to join the team.

Gakpo’s injury is expected to keep him out of the Premier League matches against Brighton and Tottenham as well.

“And Cody Gakpo unfortunately picked up an injury in the last game we played against Leeds and he will be out for a few weeks.”

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has publicly responded to the controversial post-match interview given by Mohamed Salah after the Leeds game. Salah, who was benched for the third time in a row, had made serious allegations, claiming he felt “thrown under a bus” and that “somebody wants me out” of the club.

Alisson, confirmed to be starting against Inter, admitted that Salah choosing to air his grievances publicly at Elland Road “doesn’t make me happy,” though he noted he had not discussed the matter with the forward directly.

This internal strife occurs as Liverpool, already struggling in the Champions League (13th place after a 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven), face Inter without the benched Salah, despite being short of forwards.

“I hope he plays for the club again, but that’s a situation between Mo and the club. I don’t think his goal was to disrespect anyone. He had the freedom to talk how he feels about his own situation. Now it’s important how we react.”
