Liverpool Eyeing Up Crystal Palace Ace As Key Star’s Replacement, Joining Chelsea In Pursuit
Written By Albert Echatah
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they look for a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
More Details
This summer, Newcastle United made three proposals for Guehi, which Palace turned down. The final offer was barely higher than the south London team’s asking price of £75 million (€88.9m / $99m) for the centre back.

Liverpool are still keeping an eye on the former Chelsea player’s circumstances, as per Fabrizio Romano’s most recent daily briefing. The defender’s contract at Selhurst Park expires in 2026.
However, they are reportedly unwilling to pay Palace’s £75 million (€89 million / $99 million) asking price, but manager Slot is eager to bolster his defence, and Guehi may be the 33-year-old Van Dijk’s heir apparent at Anfield.
The Kop Times includes his previous employers. Chelsea is eager to re-sign their academy graduate, and the Blues have a clause from their 2021 contract with Palace that gives them matching rights if Palace agrees to let Guehi go.
However, the odds of Enzo Maresca’s squad landing Guehi would “significantly diminish” if they were to miss out on qualifying for the Champions League the following season.

The Englishman will reportedly see a significant pay increase, and it’s possible that the contract may include a release clause worth between £60 million and £70 million (€71.2 million and €83 million).
It is believed that Guehi would be hesitant to sign an extension, which would weaken Palace’s position in the transfer negotiations and maybe make it possible for teams like Liverpool, Newcastle, and others to recruit him for a projected value of roughly £50 million (€59.3 million) next summer.
