For EPL side, Liverpool, the signing of a midfielder is top on their agenda for the coming transfer windows with a number of targets already drawn up as the club waits for more clarity over their ownership.
More Details
But that shouldn’t stop them from trying to bring in at least one player during the January transfer market, with or without a new owner.
Of course, it’s common knowledge that their top target is Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Jude Bellingham, but given the level of competition for the Englishman, the Reds could be forced into shifting their focus elsewhere.

According to the latest report, Liverpool are said to be eyeing Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount and are ready to take advantage of his uncertain about future at the Stamford and sign the player from their rival.
Mount, who is currently with the England squad at the World Cup has just 18 months left on his contract with the Blues and the player has rejected all offers from the club, asking that all contract talks be put on hold until after the World Cup.
Liverpool may seek to include one of their own players to sweeten any deal for Mount.
Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino are the two most notable names that the Reds are prepared to offer, but they face issues of their own with regards to these players.
While Chelsea may have been interested in signing Keita in the past, his recent injury woes and the fact that his contract with the club will expire in 2023, hence they’ve to make any deal involving him to happen by January before he becomes a free agent in June next year.
Brazilian striker, Firmino is also in the same shoe as Keita, his contract is set to expire next year and while he’s a much more desirable option for Chelsea, they can also afford to wait for his contract to expire to sign him for free in June instead of losing one of their own most important players (Mount).
To further through a wrench in any potential deal, Firmino is something of a club icon on Merseyside and may want his next move to be away from England.
For Chelsea, the intention is clear, to keep Mount at the club beyond his current contract, but the player is seeking reassurance from the club that the squad will be strengthened so that they can remain competitive in the League and in Europe.
Meanwhile…
Italian side, Juventus may also through their hat in the ring in the race for Mount as they seek to revamp their squad for next season as they seek to regain their place among the elites in Europe after a disappointing start to the new season.

After being knocked out of the UEFA champions league group stage, the Bianconeri are slowly clawing their way back into the Serie A title race, but it’s very much obvious that the squad needs major overhauling and a player like Mount will be a major upgrade and will add some quality to the squad.
But owing to their current financial state, it will be hard to see them being able to compete with Liverpool or even match the contract offer that Chelsea can bring to the table.
