Liverpool Still Want Another Midfielder As Newcastle United Close In On Their Fourth Signing

Written By Onyeka Daniel

With Fabinho completing his move to Saudi Arabia, English Premier League side, Liverpool will now make a move in the transfer market to replace him and it would make it their third signing for the midfielder after bringing in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

More Details

There are several names being linked with the club, Romeo Lavia, Khepren Thuram, Manu Kone and even Douglas Luiz but two new names have been added to the list and these could be their signings, especially if Jordan Henderson manages to secure his own exit too.

Aston Villa midfielder, Boubacar Kamara and PSG enforcer, Marco Verratti are the latest name to be added to the list. According to a new report from England, Liverpool are now looking short of experience and depth in their deep-lying roles in midfield, which has led to Jurgen Klopp having to quickly identify potential options to replace both Henderson and Fabinho ahead of next season.

It Is claimed that Kamara is one of the players on the Merseyside club’s radar, despite Liverpool being linked with his teammate Douglas Luiz previously. He’s expected to cost around €38m.

Kamara could be a really exciting prospect for Liverpool upon the exit of Fabinho if Villa are willing to part ways with their asset this summer and would provide the team with a like-for-like replacement who has the experience needed to make an instant impact at Anfield.

The Reds are also showing interest in Italy star, Verratti, who is among their ‘main’ midfield targets. The 30-year-old signed for the Ligue 1 giants in 2012 and he has played over 400 times for them over the past 11 seasons. The French club are looking to rejuvenate their squad and Verratti is expected to follow Lionel Messi out of the club this summer.

The midfielder is ‘not entirely satisfied’ at PSG and he’s ‘expressed his desire to make the leap to the Premier League’. Regarding Liverpool, the idea of joining the Premier League club and working under Jurgen Klopp is ‘seductive to him’. No possible figure has been quoted yet for him, but the most concrete of them all is Crystal Palace midfielder, Cheick Doucoure.

According to Sports journalist, Pete O’Rourke, Doucoure is of interest to Liverpool but Crystal Palace’s ‘asking price is now £50m’. ‘Liverpool’s transfer chiefs are drawing up a list of targets – and one name in the shortlist is Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, I’m told. The Merseysiders like him after his good debut season at Palace, where he won their Player of the Season award.

“He could replace Fabinho in that defensive midfield role, and sources say Liverpool are now exploring a potential move. ‘Doucoure only joined Palace last summer for £21million – and I’m told they will drive a hard bargain as they look to bank a big profit if he is to leave the club. It could take a fee well in excess of £35million to prise him away from Selhurst Park. I’m told the latest overnight update is that the asking price is now £50m.’ he further added.

For Newcastle United, after finalizing a deal to well Allan Saint-Maximin to a Saudi Arabian club, the Magpies have moved quickly to replace him in the squad, while also bringing in another signing, this time a right-back to take their summer signings to a total of four.

After completing a high profile transfer for Sandro Tonali, 18yrs old Yankuba Minteh was brought in from Odense and the winger was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord. They’re now set to follow it up with the signing of Harvey Barnes from Leicester city and Tino Livramento from Southampton. Barnes is seen as a direct replacement for Saint-Maximin even if both players possess different attributes.

The one-time England international was on Tyneside on Thursday to undergo his medical and finalise his £38million switch from Leicester City. He also met with sporting Dan Ashworth at the club’s Benton training centre. Livramento made 32 appearances for the Saints before an ACL injury forced him on the sidelines for 12 months.

He is not long back fit after returning for the remaining two games of last season against Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool. The right-back is very highly rated by Ashworth, who believes the player is a top England international in the making. With Kieran Trippier turning 34 next year, Livramento is viewed as a long-term solution.

Chelsea inserted a buyback clause when they sold Livramento for just £4m two years ago but they are unlikely to stop Newcastle’s pursuit. After failing to convince Ivan Fresneda to join them, the Magpies have now brought in another right-back to serve as a backup to their captain.
