Four players have left Liverpool this summer; the most notable ones were centre-back Joel Matip and midfielder Thiago Alcantara, whose contracts expired.
As a result, it is believed that the Merseysiders have high goals for midfield and defence reinforcements. One of the key figures in control of Anfield’s incomings and outgoings is new sporting director Richard Hughes.
David Ornstein, a football correspondent for The Athletic, reports that Liverpool want to add a new No. 6 to their roster before the summer transfer market closes.
According to Ornstein, the Reds are not interested in a midfielder who is currently playing in the Premier League, but they do view the acquisition of a new defensive midfielder as a market priority.

Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch have all started in the No. 6 position for Liverpool in their three friendly victories over Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
Endo has had trouble adjusting to Slot’s calm, possession-based style of play in the early going, even if the later two have appeared at ease in the defensive role.
Adrien Rabiot is reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool, but the Frenchman isn’t regarded as a defensive midfielder. Alternatively, the Reds might rekindle their interest in players who were previously linked to Anfield, such Atalanta’s Ederson and Porto’s Alan Varela.
