Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. However, Leverkusen are only willing to let Wirtz go if Liverpool includes either Harvey Elliott or Jarell Quansah in the deal.

This comes as Liverpool, fresh off their Premier League title win, is looking to strengthen their squad, having already brought in Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a replacement for Andrew Robertson. However, their primary transfer target this summer appears to be Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool have already offered over £100 million for Wirtz, but Leverkusen is reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £130 million.
According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool might be able to reduce the cash portion of the deal by including either Harvey Elliott or Jarell Quansah in the transfer for Wirtz.
Liverpool are also facing a defensive dilemma, as evidenced by Jarell Quansah’s limited playtime despite starting the first game of the 2024 season against Ipswich Town (where he was substituted at halftime for Ibrahima Konate).

Quansah, a 6’5″ center-back, demonstrates strong passing and physical prowess against combative forwards, though he struggles with more agile attackers.
While the 22-year-old could improve by addressing his defensive shortcomings, the club’s potential exodus of defenders like Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Konate, and Kostas Tsimikas makes any decision regarding Quansah’s future particularly difficult.
Harvey Elliott has had limited playing time, starting only two Premier League games in the 2024-25 season. He’s found it tough to get ahead of Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai, and his chances of breaking into the team would be even slimmer if Wirtz were to be signed.
