Liverpool’s Wirtz Pursuit Intensifies: ‘Revised Offer’ On Table To Shatter Club’s Transfer Record

Written By Albert Echatah

Liverpool have reportedly made a fresh bid of £113 million to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz, aiming to bring the German player to Anfield.

More Details

This move suggests a busy summer transfer period for the Reds, who have already acquired Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and are also reportedly interested in players like Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Florian Wirtz remains a hot topic among supporters, primarily because Liverpool appears to be his top choice over Bayern Munich. Last week, Leverkusen reportedly rejected a bid from Liverpool around £109 million, which would have been the club’s highest-ever transfer fee for a single player.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool has presented a new offer to a Bundesliga club. This new deal guarantees the German team £100 million upfront, with an additional £13 million potentially payable if certain performance-related conditions are met.

Darwin Nunez holds the distinction of being Liverpool’s most expensive acquisition to date, with his transfer from Benfica potentially costing up to £85 million. However, the final fee paid by Liverpool could be less if certain performance-related add-ons aren’t achieved.

Since his arrival in the summer of 2022, the striker’s performance at Anfield has been inconsistent, notably scoring only five Premier League goals in the 2024-25 season.

This mixed record has led some supporters to express concern that he might not live up to the high expectations associated with his significant transfer fee.

Having consistently performed well in Germany, the attacker scored 16 goals and assisted 14 last season, following a superb 2023-24 season where he bagged 18 goals and 19 assists for title-winners Leverkusen.

His proven playmaking skills will be particularly important for Arne Slot, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid leaving a significant creative void for Liverpool.
