Ahead of England’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 quarterfinal showdown with Sweden, defender Lucy Bronze has spoken about her positional flexibility and the team’s mindset heading into the high-stakes encounter.
More Details
“I will do whatever she [Sarina Wiegman] tells me,” Bronze said with a smile.
“I play in positions for the team’s benefit and for the players. I like to attack and also like to defend. I can do whatever role is given to me, whether it’s from Sarina or the players around me.”
With Sweden known for their strength in wide areas, Bronze acknowledged the tactical challenge but emphasized England’s focus on their own identity.
“We know Sweden play in wide positions but at the same time, we are a good and top team. We don’t want to change too much. We want to bring to the game what we are good at. We are very much focused on our strengths. We believe we can beat them.”

Wiegman on Growing the Women’s Game
England manager Sarina Wiegman also touched on the broader picture, reiterating her commitment to growing opportunities for women and girls in football.
“What we are working on is making sure more females and girls are involved in football. We want every girl and woman to have the chance to get involved—whether that’s playing, coaching, or in any other role,” Wiegman said.
