In their Champions League round of 16 matchup, Pep Guardiola’s team easily overcame the Danish champions, defeating Jacob Neestrup’s team 3-1 to win the series 6-2 overall.

Manuel Akanji opened the scoring, but visiting custodian Kamil Grabara let Julian Alvarez’s strike slip through his own net.

The Citizens easily advanced into the quarterfinals after taking a two-goal lead in the first ten minutes. Mohamed Elyounoussi’s goal gave Copenhagen a fleeting hope, but Erling Haaland’s goal in first-half injury time sealed the victory. After winning the first leg, Guardiola made seven changes to the team that defeated Manchester United in the derby the previous weekend, turning the tie significantly in their advantage.

However, one of those substitutions had to be made since Jeremy Doku had been declared injured and would not be able to play.

“He had some muscular problems so we did not want to take the risk,” Guardiola revealed pre-match, putting his fitness into doubt ahead of the trip to Anfield.

A further injury concern for City came throughout the game when Matheus Nunes was substituted due to a horrific finger injury in the second half.

Erling Haaland has equalled Sergio Aguero’s UCL goal tally courtesy of his goal against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

The third goal in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory at the Etihad tonight assured them of a trip to the quarterfinals. The goal was scored by the Norwegian.

After two goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez cut the deficit to half, Haaland’s goal gave the home team a two-goal lead again. In addition to helping the Citizens achieve another routine victory in Europe, the strike sent Haaland higher up the Champions League scoring charts during his still-relatively-short career.
