Man City’s Carabao Cup Defence Takes Them To West Ham As Chelsea Host Southampton

The third round of the 2021/2022 Carabao cup has concluded and the draws for the fourth round have immediately been released by the FA.

Twelve of the sixteen teams left in the tournament are premier league clubs which is a good testament of the superiority of the elite division.  Seven from the second tier with just Sunderland the only club outside the top two tiers of English football remaining.

Manchester City take the defence of their trophy to West Ham United who dispatched their city rivals Manchester United at old Trafford.

Chelsea overcame Aston villa on penalties and will face Southampton who themselves won via spot kicks against Sheffield United.

Arsenal host Leeds United after comfortably seeing off Wimbledon Fc while Liverpool travel to Preston North End.

Leicester host highflying Brighton in an all premier league encounter with Burnley hosting a fumbling Tottenham Hotspur.

QPR host Sunderland in the only tie that doesn’t include a premier league club while Brentford travel to Stoke in what seems like a championship return for the Bees.

The games will be played between October 26 and 27.

Defending champion Pep Guardiola has hailed the City football academy after five of its players made their debuts on Wednesday night.

City are on a mission of winning the Carabao cup for the fifth successive year as Wycombe got brushed aside by the English champions.

Romeo Lavia, CJ Egan-Riley, Luke Mbete, Finley Burns, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and James McAtee were all handed first team debuts as the Etihad outfit cruised past the league one campaigners.

“One of the nights I love to be manager,” said Guardiola in his post match press conference.

“We have a feeling of talented players in the Man City academy. They don’t demand, they don’t make bad faces. I’m so proud to be the manager for this club!”

Pep made a reference of Phil Foden, urging the youngsters to work hard in becoming important for the club. “Man City have an incredible generation of young players. Maybe in the future, they’ll be important like Phil Foden. It depends on them.”
