Manchester City Sign USWNT Star Sam Coffey In $875k Deal
Manchester City have completed the signing of USWNT midfielder Sam Coffey, with the Women’s Super League leaders announcing on Wednesday that the 27-year-old has agreed a contract running through 2029.

City are reported to have paid $875,000 in transfer fees to secure Coffey’s services, ending her four-year spell with the Portland Thorns, where she established herself as one of the NWSL’s standout midfielders and won a league title.
“Sam’s reputation as one of the world’s best speaks for itself, and we’re delighted she’s chosen to come here ahead of other potential suitors,” said Manchester City director of football Therese Sjögran in a statement.
The move highlights Manchester City’s growing ambitions in the WSL.

The club currently sit six points clear at the top of the table, powered by a star-studded squad that includes Bunny Shaw and Vivianne Miedema, as they push for domestic and European success.
Coffey’s transfer also reflects a wider trend within the USWNT, with an increasing number of key players opting for Europe.

More than half of the United States’ starting XI in the Olympic gold medal match are now based overseas.
“For as long as I’ve kicked a ball, I’ve always dreamed of playing professional soccer in Europe,” Coffey wrote on social media. “I would never forgive myself if I didn’t go try.”
Manchester City are next in action on Sunday, facing Bournemouth in the FA Women’s Cup at 8 a.m. ET, although the club has yet to confirm whether Coffey will feature in the match.
