The pair worked together at Ajax and they’re set to continue their relationship in England, with Barcelona having decided to sacrifice the player to fund their transfer plans.

Barcelona already have a replacement on standby, as they’ve reached an agreement with Ivory Coast midfielder, Franck Kessie over joining the club on a free transfer after his contract with Italian side, AC Milan expires this summer.

Despite recent statement from the De Jong that his future lies with the Blaugrana and lack of Champions League football, he seems to have been convinced by Ten Hag to move to the Old Trafford and start afresh.

The exit of Paul Pogba has made the move more urgent for Manchester United and they look to finally give their coach his transfer request.

“There were more problems in the dressing room. At Barcelona the dressing room was never a problem, never. When you have 24 or 25 players there are always going to be some who aren’t happy but, in general, the dressing room wasn’t against the coach. We actually worked well together.

“The problem was when the president came. A president or technical director can doubt the coach. The problem is that it came out in the press.” Koeman was sacked in October last year and replaced by Xavi Hernandez. It should be noted that the last time the club actually won a trophy was under Koeman when they beat Athletic Bilbao to win the Copa Del Rey.
