Even though Manchester United aren’t the dominant force it once was, a Paris Saint-Germain star is reportedly still open to leaving the Champions League winners to join the struggling Premier League club.

More Details

Manchester United had a terrible 2025-26 season. Under managers Erik ten Hag and then Ruben Amorim, they finished a dismal 15th in the Premier League, a full 24 points shy of qualifying for the Champions League.

While they performed better in European competition, their loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final means they won’t be playing in Europe at all next season. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had an incredible year, securing their first-ever Champions League title and winning two domestic trophies under the leadership of manager Luis Enrique.

A crucial player in Enrique’s successful team was Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who stood out despite the team’s many talented attackers.

Donnarumma, the 26-year-old European champion, made a series of excellent saves that were crucial to PSG’s wins over Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal in the Champions League knockout stages.

Given his vital role for the Parisian club, it’s unexpected that he is now in the last year of his contract without having agreed to a new deal. L’Equipe reports that discussions regarding a new contract for Donnarumma started several months ago, but an agreement has not yet been reached. Donnarumma’s representatives are reportedly dissatisfied with the initial offers.

According to L’Equipe, several clubs are keeping an eye on Donnarumma’s situation, with Manchester United and Manchester City particularly interested in signing him to play in the Premier League.

Donnarumma is reportedly open to joining either of these clubs and has even spoken with his international teammates about a potential move to the Premier League.

Manchester United’s reported interest in signing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma suggests that manager Ruben Amorim is looking to replace their current number one, Andre Onana.

Onana, despite playing in a Champions League final with Inter Milan before his £47 million move, has had a difficult and inconsistent first season at Old Trafford, leading to speculation about his future.
