Manchester United Move Into Top Three Position After Win Over Leicester

Manchester United Women moved into the top three of the Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) table with a 4-0 victory over Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday.

Martha Thomas and Alessia Russo both struck from close range in the first half to send the Reds into the break with a two-goal advantage.

That was before captain Katie Zelem superbly wrapped up the points in the second half with two goals scored directly from corners.

The win takes Marc Skinner’s side into the Champions League places for the night, before the rest of this weekend’s action in the division tomorrow.


Manchester United with 28 points from 15 games occupy the third position while Leicester City Women remain in the eleventh position with 12 points from 16 games, eight points ahead of Birmingham in the 12th place.


28th-minute goal from Maya Le Tissier lifted Brighton to a 0-1 win against Aston Villa at the Bescot Stadium, Walsall.

Brighton with 22 points from 16 games moved to the seventh position while Aston Villa occupy the ninth position with 16 points.

Chelsea and Manchester City later on Saturday will face each other for the first domestic title of the women’s football season in England.

The Continental Tyres League Cup Final will determine the first team to win a trophy this season in England.
