But it looks like Manchester United may not be interested in letting the player off easily despite being considered a fringe player in the squad. West Ham could take Maguire off United’s hands this transfer window and they’re also said to be interested in Scott McTominay, as a potential replacement for Rice while Maguire could potentially follow him to the London Stadium.
The Red Devils have the opportunity to save a further £20million by selling their captain to West Ham. David Moyes’ outfit are reportedly keen on the out-of-favour center-back.

United have reportedly slapped a price tag of £40m on Maguire, however, this sum could deter any interested club since they would unlikely have any considerable chance of selling him in the future, given his age (30yrs).
Maguire has rapidly fallen down the pecking order since Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford. He started the first two Premier League games under the Dutchman but now sits behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw, while his place in the England team has also been in question due to a lack of game time.
United do have one extra motive for selling Maguire as aside from any transfer fee they would receive for the skipper, his wages would also come off the books. The defender has two years left on his contract and reportedly earns £200,000-a-week, across the two years his wages would amount to £20.8m.
But they’re also keen to recoup a better part of the fee that they paid to sign him from Southampton, a then record fee for a defender. The player on his part, reportedly wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place despite making just 16 league appearances last season including eight starts.
Gareth Southgate has already warned him that his place on the international team could be in doubt, but Maguire and United appear to be on the same page. Erik Ten Hag, meanwhile, according to Sky sports will leave the decision up to Maguire over his future, as the club are aware that they will need to sign a replacement if he leaves.
The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Axel Disasi and Jean-Clair Todibo, but with United standing to get a financial boost of £20m in addition to any transfer fee, their captain’s future remains up in the air.
Meanwhile…
Owners of the club, The Glazers could be forced to inject more funds into the club to enable them complete their summer transfer business, especially the signing of Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund this summer with Ten Hag desperate to acquire the services of another striker to assist Marcus Rashford upfront.
The team has made some progress under the formr Ajax manager from last season, winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final. However, the coach has made it abundantly clear that he requires further investment if United are to push for the Premier League title.

According to reports, the initial budget was €100m while the remaining transfer would be funded from the sales of players, but with Andre Onana expected to join after they completed a deal for Mason Mount, that they’ve already exhausted their transfer budget.
Currently, Hojlund is valued at £60m by Atalanta, which many perceive to be a significant price to pay for a striker that scored nine league goals last season. But, the Glazers may have no other option than to fund the transfer so as not to see the value of the club drop from their €6b valuation. United are said to be keen to negotiate a lesser fee with Atalanta by offering them some of their fringe players in return, including Mason Greenwood, though the Italian club are not looking to entertain such deals at this stage.
