Written By Onyeka Daniel

Chelsea reportedly rejected a second bid from Manchester United for England midfielder, Mason Mount, believed to be in the region of €55 million and the Red Devils have decided to move on to other targets instead as they consider the fee good enough for a player with just one year left on his contract.

Consequently, they have reportedly turned their attention towards signing Moises Caicedo after their failure to reach agreements for top targets Mount and Adrien Rabiot.

According to the report, Erik ten Hag is ready to make Brighton star Caicedo his top target instead, despite the fact that the Seagulls want £15m more for the Ecuador than United are willing to pay for Mount.

The Ecuadorian has been a major target for Chelsea for some time after Arsenal failed with a move of their own for the midfielder back in January. He Is being considered as Mount’s replacement, despite the Blues star being more of an offensive player while Caicedo is a box to box midfielder.

This could present new problems to Chelsea as they must first offload Mount for Financial Fair Play purposes, although United could be about to blow that whole transfer up by trying to lure the Seagulls star over the latter instead. T

he Blues are in desperate need of new midfield recruits after the exits of N’Golo Kante and Matteo Kovacic, while several more top Stamford Bridge stars are expected to move on this summer in a major shake-up under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

They also wanted to get Juventus star Rabiot, but the 28-year-old is expected to sign a contract extension with the Bianconeri, as stated by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

It could also be a ploy by United to get Chelsea to bring down their price, but no doubt, Caicedo would fit in more at United than Mount as the Red Devils already have Bruno Fernandes in their team and the Brighton midfielder is also younger than Mount.

Already there are murmurs of an interest from Bayern Munich for Mount with Thomas Tuchel reportedly seeking a reunion with his former player, but like United, they would be unwilling to reach Chelsea’s reported figure and could look to insert player(s) in the deal instead.

Meanwhile…

Mason Greenwood has reportedly put his luxury mansion up for rent, suggesting that he could soon be leaving Manchester United despite being spotted recently to be training, although, with a personal trainer. He has not played for United since January 2022, when he was suspended amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling or coercive behaviour, though those charges have since been dropped.

The club are continuing to conduct their own internal investigation, although he was included on their retained squad list for the 2023-24 season. Reports from England has it that he has put his Manchester house up for rent, suggesting that he could well be on the move soon as United potentially look to cut ties with the one-time England international.

The report adds that the six-bedroom home is being circulated between high-end lettings agents, and would cost more than £15,000-per-month. United are reported to have been contacted by three Serie A clubs, with Juventus, Inter, and AC Milan all said to be interested in securing Greenwood’s signature on a short-term basis.

He is not said to be considered as transfer listed, and is more likely to leave on loan than on a permanent deal. Coach of the team, Erik ten Hag is reportedly willing to bring Greenwood back into the squad, as are a number of his team-mates, but there is an understanding among the executives at the club that it may lead to a significant backlash from the fans and civil right groups.
