The wage bill rose by a whopping 23% to £88.5m due to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane who all joined the Red Devils in the summer.

The club however earned £17.4m in players sales. That was made possible by the transfer of Daniel James to Leeds United and a sell on percentage on Romelu Lukaku who moved from Inter Milan to Chelsea over the summer.

Commercial revenues did rise by 7.9% to £64.4m which can be attributed to the arrival of Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo. The club’s net debt stood at £439.7m on September 30, down slightly from £440.6m the previous year.

Despite these numbers, outgoing executive vice chairman, Ed Woodwards has maintained on pitch success is the priority at the Old Trafford club. He said via ESPN: “While these financial results today demonstrate our resilience through the pandemic, our top priority is success on the pitch.

“The manager, players and everyone at the club are determined to achieve that objective.”
