Manchester United Set Their Sight On Brighton Goalkeeper As Alternative To Onana As Jurrien Timber Is Announced A Gunner

Written By Onyeka Daniel

With the transfer of Mason Mount over and done with, Manchester United will now shift their attention towards the signing of a goalkeeper with David De Gea already deciding against signing a new contract with the club.

More Details

The Red Devils had been on the trail of Inter Milan goalkeeper, Andre Onana but their bid of€40m plus €5m in bonus was rejected by the Nerazzurri, who are said to be holding out for€60m in total for the Cameroonian instead.

This has led them to look towards goalkeepers in the EPL and they’ve now set their sight on Brighton goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez. The 25-year-old had enjoyed a successful spell at Brighton since his arrival in 2018, making a total of 90 appearances in all competitions.

Two caps have also been earned with Spain, enhancing his reputation in the process, but he has since fallen out of favour with Roberto De Zerbi who succeeded Graham Potter as coach. Sanchez lost his place to Jason Steele during the closing months of the season and was subsequently allowed to miss the team’s closing Premier League fixtures.

Brighton have since signed Anderlecht stopper Bart Verbruggen, who will now challenge Steele for a spot in the starting lineup, and that has effectively left Sanchez surplus to requirements at the Amex Stadium.

With two years left on Sanchez’s contract, Brighton are in a position where they do not have to sell for a cut-price fee, yet all realistic offers are likely to be entertained. According to the Daily Mail, United are contemplating whether to make an approach for Sanchez over the coming weeks. If reports are to be believed, United are pressing ahead with their efforts to sign Onana.

Although a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, the current expectation is that the Cameroon international will eventually arrive at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, Erik ten Hag may sign two new goalkeepers if the opportunity arises due to Dean Henderson being likely to be sold after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

They also have Tom Heaton, but the veteran goalkeeper is viewed as the club’s third-choice stopper rather than someone who can provide competition for the number one and he could possibly be on his way out of the club too in search of regular playing time.

The report alleges that Brighton will look to recoup £30m for Sanchez, a fee that United will almost certainly not pay due to their need to fulful FFP criteria this summer. That said, it appears that negotiations may still occur at some stage, providing that Brighton do not receive their asking price from another interested party.

The ongoing project at Arsenal seems to be coming along well as the Gunners have announced yet another signing with the capture of Dutch defender, Jurrien Timber from Ajax.

According to several sources including Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have reached an agreement with the Dutch club for the utility defender who can play in any position across the backline and can also function as a defensive midfielder.

The total package is worth €40m plus €5m easy add-ons. Timber will sign until June 2028 and he only wanted Arsenal. He jouns Kai Havertz and Declan Rice as new signings for the Gunners who have spent over €200m so far and are still expected to bring in another midfielder before closing their transfer activities for the summer.
