He was the coach of Athletic Bilbao from 2011 to 2013 and he’s set for a return to the club, but on certain conditions.

Bielsa said he would return to the Bilbao bench if Inaki Arechabaleta wins the club’s election that will be taking place this Friday and is already hard at work even if he hasn’t been employed yet.

Arechabaleta is going to be running against Ricardo Barkala and Jon Uriarte. Bielsaa has said that he has already seen the 45 games Athletic played during the 2021/22 season as well as the 38 played by the club and more played by other teams connected to the club.

In total, he said, he’s seen and analysed 90 games. Bielsa believes Athletic should have finished higher in La Liga than their eighth place finish.

He said they should have been closer to Sevilla, Real Betis and Real Sociedad and believes that Los Leones should generally be pushing for fifth or sixth place. It is believed that he would sign a two year deal at the club. He’s expected to raise the level of the club.
