It was a great result for former Serie A champions, Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League as they got the better of Czech club, Slavia Prague at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, thanks to a brace from Lautaro Martinez and a goal from Denzel Dumfries in between the two goals from their captain.

On the other hand, it was not a happy ending for the Nerazzurri on Tuesday night as their striker, Marcus Thuram was seen limping after the game as he won the UEFA man of the match award and despite initial optimism, it looks like his injury might be much more serious than initial thought.

He was in the starting line-up, his seventh straight start this season and was taken off in a quadruple change immediately after Lautaro Martinez had put them 3-0 ahead in the second half and was asked about his condition during his post-match interview.
“I think it’s a small thing, nothing serious,” he said.

The former Borussia Moechengladbach forward has since reported for medical examinations in Milan, and the club have confirmed that he has suffered a muscular strain in his left hamstring and it was further confirmed that he will be brought in for reassessment next week.

Consequently, the Frenchman is expected to miss several weeks of action, ruling him out of the upcoming Serie A match against Cremonese this weekend. Furthermore, he will also be unavailable to Didier Deschamps and the France national team for the upcoming October break.

It was further predicted that he will also have to sit out of the club’s Serie A clash against Roma after the break and the Champions League game against Union Saint-Gilloise on October 21 and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to play against Napoli towards the end of the month.

It means that Christian Chivu will have to rely on Francisco Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny to partner Lautaro in attack henceforth while their teammate is sidelined and this would give precious playing time to the young duo who have been quite impressive so far.

In a related development, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, the new San Siro to be built by AC Milan and Inter will have an oval shape and a fixed roof, while the standing part of the Stadio Meazza could be used for a museum on the old stadium ground.

The two Milanese clubs have already tasked architectural firms Foster + Partners and MANICA with projecting their new stadium which has received the final green light and according to plans, the new stadium will not be rectangular, like the Meazza, but will likely have an oval shape.

The large red beams that characterise the Meazza stadium and give it a rectangular shape will disappear. The new arena will also have two tiers rather than three and the roof will be fixed and not retractable, similar to what Milan had decided for their stadium in San Donato, designed with MANICA but not Forest + Partners.

Probably, the roof will not cover the entire pitch and the turf will not be removable like in the Tottenham Stadium. Also, the capacity be 71,500 and it will have commercial areas and hospitality spaces. It will be built on a base supporting the entire structure, and the idea is to have a museum.

Furthermore, it will have a store in the square in front of the main stand and the part of the Meazza that will remain standing will be used for commercial and entertainment areas, perhaps including the creation of a San Siro museum for the two clubs.

Lastly, according to the report, 50% of the area will not be paved, as at least 80,000 square meters of green space will return to municipal ownership at the end of construction. The area bought by Inter and Milan will also include 43,000 square meters for offices, 20,000 for hotels and 15,000 for parking.
