According to Football Insider, the board is reportedly displeased with Maresca’s recent comments about his difficult experiences at the club. This friction has led Chelsea to monitor Xavi as a possible successor.
The former Barcelona manager, who led the Catalan side to a La Liga title and a Spanish Super Cup during his three-year stint, is being considered should the relationship with Maresca deteriorate further.
Having remained out of work for some time, Xavi Hernandez reportedly declined an approach from Spartak Moscow in November. The former midfielder is now being linked to the Chelsea job, positioned as a primary alternative should a vacancy arise at Stamford Bridge.
The tension at Chelsea began following a 2-0 win against Everton on Saturday, December 13th. Despite the victory, manager Enzo Maresca caught the media off guard by publicly stating he felt a lack of support from the club regarding his management and vision.

The comments were unexpected, as there had been no visible signs of unrest with fans or the media. While Maresca clarified that his frustrations weren’t directed at the supporters, he described the problem as a “general” issue within the institution.
Even though the manager complained about a “turbulent” couple of days, internal sources at Chelsea insist nothing major happened to justify his frustration. This disconnect has left staff at the club confused by Enzo Maresca’s recent behavior.
The atmosphere seemed positive on Wednesday (16th) during Chelsea’s 3-1 EFL Cup quarter-final win against Cardiff City. Fans chanted Maresca’s name throughout the match, and the manager even headed to the away section after the game to show his appreciation for their support.
