Mary Earps Withdrawn From Lionesses Squad Ahead Of Clash With France

Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji

England goalkeeper, Mary Earps has withdrawn from the England squad with a minor hip injury which she sustained in the defeat to France on Friday.

More Details

Earps is going to be missing England’s next qualifier for UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 against France after what was described as a minor hip injury during Friday’s 2-1 loss to the same opponent in Newcastle.

The Manchester United keeper, who Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton replaced, left the stadium on crutches as England suffered its first defeat in European qualifying since 2002.

It would be uncapped Birmingham City player Lucy Thomas who will replace her in the squad ahead of Tuesday’s trip to France against the Le Bleues.

England's 2-1 defeat by France in Newcastle has left them with some catching up to do if they want to secure qualification for next summer's Euros.

They trail leaders France by five points in Group A3 having lost one and drawn one in their two home games so far.

Aside from a routine victory over the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, it has been a difficult qualifying campaign for the European champions, albeit against tough opposition.

It does not get any easier for Sarina Wiegman's side as they travel to Saint-Etienne for a second meeting with France on Tuesday.
