The former Tottenham gaffer led the Parisiens to the semi final of the Champions League last season but lost the league title to Lille which initially cast doubts over his efficiency to lead the Paris outfit to glory before a decision was reached to continue with him.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties as Manchester United coach on Sunday with Michael Carrick installed as temporary manager while a long term fix is sorted by the United board. Pochettino of all the managers linked remains favourite for the job despite currently being in charge of PSG.
Former United captain, Gary Neville believes the 49-year-old will jump at the chance to become the new manager at Old Trafford.
“I think Mauricio Pochettino – although he’d never say it – would leave to come to Man Utd on a five-year deal tomorrow,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Manchester United in terms of a project. At PSG you are on a season by season, ‘you’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out’, type of model.”
“I don’t think that suits Pochettino. I think he would absolutely come to Manchester United on a five-year deal, with backing behind him.”
United will offer Pochettino a long term assurance which is one thing that’s not guaranteed in Paris. The former Espanyol and PSG defender will be more interested in managing a side that allows him build his own team just as it was for him at Spurs.
Meanwhile…
Neville admitted United were left with no option than to let Ole leave with results at the club not improving despite the backing from the board.
Neville was one of the few that backed Ole during the struggles and was always heard airing his views on the Norwegian turning around the fortunes of the club.

He has since come out to say the sacking became an inevitability due to the inability of the now former coach to inspire the team form the run of disappointing results.
I always say that managers deserve two or three years in the job,” Neville told Sky Sports. “Ole cannot complain. He has been given three years. He has been backed in the transfer market. David Moyes was given eight months and kicked out.
“I don’t think Ole can complain about the time that he has been given and the money that he has been afforded. I don’t think he can complain about the players delivered to him.
“I do think he will be massively disappointed about the fact that he has not been able to deliver performances this season. He expected more. We all expected more.
“Only he and the players can understand what has gone wrong in these last few months – and we might never get to the bottom of it.”
