Max Verstappen held on Carlos Sainz’s challenge to win the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The defending champion got his 150th race win at Montreal extending his lead in the driver’s standings.

With Verstappen’s win, Red Bull have now won six races in a row with last week’s win at Azerbaijan.

Ferrari’s Sainz finished second with an extra point for setting the fastest lap.

Hamilton was back on the podium again for the first time since the opening race this season.

George Russell of Mercedes continued his top five streak with a fourth position finish after a hard battle with teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Charles Leclerc gave a driver-of-the-day performance to finish fifth despite starting in nineteenth place.

Alpine’s Ocon settled for sixth after being overtaken a couple of times by Charles Leclerc.

Alpine’s Fernando Alonso lost his seventh position to a five second penalty for his defending against Valtteri Bottas to drop to ninth.

Hence, Bottas moved to seventh while fellow Alpha Romeo Guanyu Zhou placed eight. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll occupied the tenth position.

Lewis Hamilton was in cloud nine after achieving his second podium finish in 2022 following his third place position at the Montreal Grand Prix.

The British driver who has won the formula one Championship seven times has had to suffer challenging times since the beginning of the season.

However, there was gleam of hope for a better result this time after the Mercedes driver came fourth in the qualifying session on Saturday.

He finished third after going pass Alphine’s Fernando Alonso with a DRS while keeping fellow Mercedes driver George Russell at bay.

Hamilton expressed delight for the result and felt there are better days ahead for the Mercedes team.

“It feels great to be in amongst the battle,” said Hamilton, who beat team mate George Russell for only the second time this season. “For a second I was kind of keeping up with these guys. It’s given me and the team a lot of hope that there’s more to come from this car, the potential is there.

“When you get a full race distance you find a lot out with the car. A lot to take from today. Got really good reliability. Great work from team. Just got to keep our heads down. I know where I’m losing to these guys, so that’s where I’m going to focus on attacking to improve.”
