The German national team goalkeeper is returning from Eintracht Frankfurt to VfL Wolfsburg in the summer.

More Details…

It has been clear for a good two weeks that Almuth Schult will leave the women team of VfL Wolfsburg after the end of the season – now the VfL managers have clarified the successor: Merle Frohms, who stood between the posts for the Wolves between 2011 and 2018, will return in the summer.

The 27-year-old international goalkeeper has signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2025.

After leaving Wolfsburg in 2018, Frohms initially played for SC Freiburg before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2020. Her contract there ran until 2023, an exit clause made the change possible.

In her early days at VfL, Frohms, who was born in Celle in Lower Saxony, played 24 competitive games as number two behind Schult, including three in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She won a total of eleven titles with the Wolves.

In 2018 Frohms made her debut in the German national team, for which she has played 22 times so far.

Before that, she went through all the youth teams of Germany and became U17 European Champion in 2012 and U20 World Champion in 2014.

Meanwhile…

After the captain of the VfL Wolfsburg women’s team, Svenja Huth, was unable to take part in the Arnold Clark Cup with the German national team due to a positive COVID-19 result, Tabea Waßmuth and Kathrin Hendrich now also have to pass: the virus was also detected in the two women from Wolfsburg.

After several negative PCR tests, however, the all-clear was given to Lena Oberdorf and Felicitas Rauch, who were initially also isolated as a precautionary measure.
