Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match saw Argentina defeat Bolivia 6-0 under the direction of the 37-year-old attacker.



Messi contributed five goals in a dominating performance, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists. The hat-trick took his tally to 846 goals for club and country.

After being discovered wide open behind Bolivia’s defensive line, the Inter Miami star scored the first goal in the 19th minute by putting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan scored Argentina’s second goal. In the third minute of stoppage time in the first half, Julian Alvarez, who is currently at Atletico Madrid, tripled their lead.

Argentina’s fourth goal came in the 69th minute by Thiago Almada, who is presently playing in Brazil after making waves in Major League Soccer.

Then, in the 84th and 86th minutes, Messi found the net to score his brace and subsequent hat-trick.

Ten of Argentina’s 14 shots on goal that evening were on target. Bolivia’s performance was the contrary; they managed only four shots, one of which was on target.

The outcome retained La Albiceleste at the top of the World Cup rankings, three points ahead of the top-seeded Colombian team in second place.
