That was the result of the superstar for Inter Miami CF scoring two goals and providing one assist in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over New England Revolution. The goals came from close range in the 32nd and 68th minutes of play.

In front of a record 65,612 spectators at Gillette Stadium, Messi also contributed to Luis Suárez’s late insurance goal (89′), and Benjamin Cremaschi cleared away his blocked shot (83′). These two plays were crucial to all four of IMCF’s goals.

In the process, Messi moved past Christian Arango of Real Salt Lake and Christian Benteke of D.C. United to win the Golden Boot sponsored by Audi. With an incredible 9 goals and 7 assists, he has contributed 16 goals in the first seven games of the season, more than any other MLS player.

Messi now has three braces for the 2024 campaign. He also scored twice in two victories, beating Orlando City SC 5-0 and Nashville SC 3-1.

Diego Gomez’s ankle injury versus Nashville SC has been a major blow to Inter Miami head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s team.

The 21-year-old was carried off the ground in tears after suffering the injury during the first half of the game against the Coyotes. Gomez, who left Libertad of Paraguay to join Miami last summer, has had a fantastic season. Prior to the injury, he had two goals and five assists in MLS games.

“Gomez suffered a high-grade ankle sprain in the first half of Inter Miami’s win over Nashville SC on Saturday. He has begun the recovery process and is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks,” the club said in a release.
