Mikel Arteta Handed Major Arsenal Injury Boost Ahead Of Brighton Clash
Written By Albert Echatah
Manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli is healthy and ready to play for Arsenal against Brighton on Sunday.
More Details
The Brazilian did not participate in the midweek Champions League trip to PSV, but he did start the last Premier League match against Aston Villa last weekend.
Since Martinelli is scheduled to make a quick comeback to action and Arteta made several changes to his first team—which has already qualified for the knockout stages—it was not a huge concern.
On Sunday, the Gunners play Brighton, and Martinelli will play. Mohamed Elneny, however, will not, having suffered a slight hamstring injury at PSV.
‘Martinelli is feeling good,’ Arteta told a press conference on Friday. Asked whether he is in contention for Sunday, he added: ‘Yeah.
‘We have no other news apart from Mo. Mo had to be subbed because he felt something in his hamstring. We did a scan and it doesn’t look too serious, so he’s going to be with us very soon, which is good news as well.’
There are still some long-term injury absences for Arsenal, including Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber, and Fabio Vieira.

Meanwhile…
Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.
Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.
This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
