Minnesota United FC Acquire Colombian Defender Jefferson Díaz From Deportivo Cali

On Monday, Minnesota United FC announced that they had acquired Jefferson Díaz, a centre back, from Deportivo Cali, a top-tier Colombian team.

Díaz’s contract expires in 2027, with a 2028 club option. He has a spot on the international roster.

“Jefferson has an interesting physical profile we believe adds strength and additional options as we bolster our backline.
“We look forward to welcoming Jefferson to Minnesota this summer and seeing him represent MNUFC,” chief soccer officer and sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad said in a release.
Díaz, 23, has played in his home country of Colombia throughout his whole professional career.

In 102 games with Real Cartagena, Valledupar, and Deportivo Cali, he has 8 goals and 5 assists. Díaz joins Michael Boxall, the captain, and Miguel Tapias at centre back in Minnesota.
MNUFC is ranked ninth in the Western Conference at the halfway mark of the Leagues Cup (9W-10L-6D; 33 points). Eric Ramsay, a first-year head coach, is in charge of them.
