MLS: Alba, Others Shine As Inter Miami Put Three Past Los Angeles FC

In front of a celebrity-studded audience, Inter Miami defeated Los Angeles Football Club 3-1 on Sunday night thanks in part to two assists from Lionel Messi.

Since Messi joined the team in mid-July, Miami has gone undefeated in 11 games in all competitions thanks to goals from Facundo Faras, Jordi Alba, and Leonardo Campana.

LAFC, which has dropped its last two games, scored thanks to Ryan Hollingshead. In the 38th minute, Messi got a clear chance on goal, but McCarthy made the save with his left foot.

After joining the team in late July, Faras, who turned 21 on August 28, earned his second start and scored his first goal in the 14th minute.

As Faras ran up the right side of the pitch, Tomas Avilés produced a fantastic pass to him from midfield. Faras took advantage of a gap between two LAFC defenders to slide a shot past LAFC goalkeeper John McCarthy, strike the far post, and bounce into the goal.

With a left-footed goal in the 51st minute, Alba increased LAFC’s lead. In the 83rd minute, Messi had a 2-on-1 breakaway before passing to Campana, who had a clear shot at goal.

John Herdman has been officially named the new coach of MLS based club Toronto FC. Starting on October 1st, the 48-year-old will take over as Toronto FC’s next head coach in the MLS.

Herdman became the coach of Canada in January 2018 before leading the North American giants to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance in 36 years.

“I’m keen to start this new opportunity with Toronto FC,” he said. “It’s the right time for a new challenge.” Toronto fired former head coach Bob Bradley in June and are currently towards the bottom of the MLS standings.
