This victory (10-3-7) marks a significant defensive improvement for Columbus, who hadn’t recorded a shutout in 14 matches. For the Philadelphia Union (12-4-4), the loss snapped their impressive club-record 11-game unbeaten streak.
Lassi Lappalainen scored the only goal of the game, receiving a through ball on the left sideline and crossing it to Farsi for a one-touch finish at the far post.
Philadelphia Union had multiple scoring opportunities, including a header from Jesús Bueno off a Kai Wagner free kick in stoppage time, but couldn’t convert.
