His first goal came in the first half with a curling shot that found the bottom-left corner of the net. In the second half, Messi added a spectacular highlight-reel goal, dribbling through several defenders before placing the ball into the top-right corner, electrifying the crowd.
Tadeo Allende and Telasco Segovia also contributed goals for Miami (9-3-5). This MLS match marked Inter Miami’s return to league play after their recent FIFA Club World Cup appearance, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 after a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, headlined Miami’s starting lineup, playing alongside former FC Barcelona stars Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
His presence clearly electrified the sold-out crowd, who sported Argentine blue and Inter Miami pink, chanted his name throughout the match, and even left their seats to get a better view when he took a corner kick.
In contrast, Montreal (3-13-5) continued to struggle, despite Prince Owusu scoring his fourth goal in as many games, as Marco Donadel’s team remains last in the Eastern Conference with just one home victory in ten outings.

Lionel Messi’s arrival in Montreal on Friday night drew massive crowds, with hordes of fans converging on a downtown hotel hoping to see the global icon.
On Saturday, even more supporters lined the streets around Stade Saputo, holding signs, hours before kickoff, just to watch him disembark from the team bus. This marked Messi’s fourth professional game in Canada and his second appearance in Montreal.
Messi’s Canadian debut was on May 11, 2024, where he played a match in Montreal that saw Miami beat the home team 3-2, though Messi didn’t score. Saturday’s game, however, unfolded differently.
