LA Galaxy have officially bolstered their roster, announcing the signing of free-agent midfielder Erik Thommy on Wednesday.

More Details

The deal secures Thommy’s services through June 2027, while also providing the club with an additional option to extend his stay for the 2027–28 MLS season.

After spending three and a half seasons with Sporting Kansas City, the 31-year-old German midfielder is headed to LA. During his tenure in Kansas City (2022–2025), he was a consistent contributor, racking up 20 goals and 18 assists over 120 appearances.

Thommy’s move to MLS followed a decade-long career in his home country, where he featured prominently for Bundesliga clubs such as VfB Stuttgart, Fortuna Düsseldorf, and FC Augsburg.

“We are excited to welcome Erik to the LA Galaxy,” said general manager Will Kuntz.

“Erik is a versatile player capable of playing multiple attacking positions. His vast experience across the German top-flight and Major League Soccer will be a great asset to our locker room and on the field, and we cannot wait for him to get started with the group.”

Thommy joins the Galaxy as their fourth veteran addition of the winter, joining recent signees Jakob Glesnes, Justin Haak, and João Klauss as players with previous MLS mileage.

The club is set for a busy 2026 campaign, kicking off their MLS schedule on February 22 at home against NYCFC (streaming on Apple TV at 7 pm ET). In addition to league play, the Galaxy are also slated to compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
