This victory brings Miami’s total to 52 points, placing them in fifth in the Eastern Conference and keeping them in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.
“It was an important victory,” coach Javier Mascherano said after the final whistle at Chase Stadium. “We won the six points we needed to win at home.
“We’ve gone up, we still have several games left to get us [higher up the table].”
When Messi is playing his best, Miami is a serious contender for the MLS Cup Playoffs. In a recent match, he had a spectacular performance, assisting Tadeo Allende for the first goal before scoring twice himself after halftime.

After Christian Benteke tied the game, Messi scored with a classic first touch inside the box, capitalizing on a pass from his former Barcelona teammate, Jordi Alba. He sealed the win five minutes later, faking out a defender and expertly curving the ball into the net for his second goal of the night.
After his recent goal, Lionel Messi now leads the MLS in scoring with 22 goals, surpassing Sam Surridge of Nashville SC, who has 21. What’s even more impressive is that Messi has accomplished this in significantly less playing time—803 fewer minutes, to be exact.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Messi has also racked up 12 assists. This exceptional performance has him in a strong position to win the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award for the second year in a row, a feat no player has ever achieved.
