MLS Team Of The Week – Ryan Gauld, Héctor Herrera, Riqui Puig, Deandre Kerr

Following his performance in the ‘Caps’ 1-0 away victory over Chicago Fire FC on Matchday 29, attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld of Vancouver Whitecaps FC has been nominated to the MLS Team of the Matchday for the eighth time this season.

Gauld increased his recent run to 10 goals and nine assists in his past 14 appearances across all competitions. He also became the ‘Caps all-time leader in MLS assists with 23 assists after helping Brian White score the game-winning goal. With 16 goal contributions since May 31 (nine goals, seven assists), he has also maintained his lead in the MLS.

The Scottish playmaker also won five duels on Wednesday night in addition to taking three shots and creating three chances.

Eight different ‘Caps have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, including Gauld (Matchday 11, Matchday 14, Matchday 16, Matchday 21, Matchday 25, Matchday 26, Matchday 28, Matchday 29), Brian White (Matchday 11, Matchday 16, Matchday 28), Yohei Takaoka (Matchday 8, Matchday 10), Simon Becher (Matchday 5, Matchday 6), Ali Ahmed (Matchday 6), Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 4), Andrés Cubas (Matchday 21), and Ranko Veselinović (Matchday 17).

John Herdman has been officially named the new coach of MLS based club Toronto FC. Starting on October 1st, the 48-year-old will take over as Toronto FC’s next head coach in the MLS.

Herdman became the coach of Canada in January 2018 before leading the North American giants to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance in 36 years.

“I’m keen to start this new opportunity with Toronto FC,” he said. “It’s the right time for a new challenge.” Toronto fired former head coach Bob Bradley in June and are currently towards the bottom of the MLS standings.
