The No.45 advanced to her 1st WTA 1000 semifinal with a 6-4 6-3 win over Amanda Anisimova to set up the semi final toe with Ons Jabeur.
It will be the eighth match between Ons Jabeur and Ekaterina Alexandrova; the Russian leads the head-to-head 6-1.
Ekaterina Alexandrova is the 3rd qualifier to reach the Madrid semifinals, joining Lucie Hradecka (2012) and Louisa Chirico (2016).
Jabeur expects a tough match in the last four.
“I’m sick of semifinals. Can I say that? Because I said that for quarters. I’m just going to continue this way, continue to know what I should do each match. I’m going to play [an] aggressive player next match — [Ekaterina] Alexandrova. It’s going to be very tough,” Ons Jabeur said. “I’m just going to do me, and hopefully I can be able to counter the aggressive shots.”
