Mohamed Salah: Liverpool Make Contract Decision On Egyptian Winger Amidst Exit Talks

Written By Albert Echatah

Mohamed Salah has hinted that this may be his final season at Anfield, and Liverpool are reportedly going to discuss with him “soon” about his future at Anfield.

More Details

Since joining Liverpool for £36.9 million from Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah has been nothing short of a revelation, thanks in large part to Michael Edwards’ influence.

The Egyptian, who is currently regarded as one of the team’s all-time greats, has amassed 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 appearances over seven seasons, averaging a spectacular goal every 1.15 Reds games.

The 32-year-old was once again the star of the show as he tormented Manchester United at Old Trafford last Saturday, helping his team to a 3-0 victory by setting up two goals for Luis Diaz and then scoring the third himself.

With three assists and three goals in the first three games of this season, Salah is well on his way to extending his record of scoring at least 20 goals in each of his seasons at Anfield.

After Liverpool’s triumph over United, Salah made the startling admission that this will be his “last season” with the team and that “nobody has talked to him” about a new contract.

After those remarks were made public and originally sparked controversy among Liverpool supporters, it is now more widely believed that the Egyptian is challenging the club’s management to start contract renewal negotiations rather than that he is genuinely planning to quit Anfield.

Football Insider now claims that the Merseyside-based club are scheduled to begin discussions with the 32-year-old within the next two weeks, suggesting that Salah’s message to the Liverpool board appears to have been received.

According to the report, the Merseyside-based club have been concentrating mostly on integrating new manager Arne Slot and the new recruiting squad, which includes Michael Edwards who is back and Richard Hughes. Saudi Arabian teams have long coveted Salah; according to reports, the Reds turned down their £150 million bid for the player in the summer of 2023.
