Giroud revealed on Monday that, when his contract with AC Milan expires this summer, he will move to the Major League Soccer (MLS) after an interview that was released on the team’s official channels.

Giroud has reportedly been rumoured to be joining his former Les Bleus teammate Hugo Lloris at LAFC for months. Lloris moved from Tottenham Hotspur in late December.

“The next two games will be my last for Milan,” Giroud said. “My career will continue in MLS. I’m very proud of everything I’ve done here at Milan across three seasons. It’s the right time to announce it.

” … My story with Milan ends this year, but Milan will forever remain in my heart.”

Giroud has 57 goals in 131 games for France, and he assisted his country’s victory against Croatia in the 2018 World Cup. He is still a productive member of manager Didier Deschamps’ team and is expected to play a significant role in the UEFA Euro 2024 competition this summer.

With a club option for 2027, the 24-year-old Brazilian is now signed through the 2026 MLS season.

“We are proud to see Célio’s growth through our pipeline”, sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a press release. “He has grown as a professional, both on and off the field, and to reap the rewards with a new contract was something he worked really hard for. Celio continues to elevate his game each and every day and we hope that he doesn’t stop raising the bar.”
