My Head Was No Longer In Milan - Lukaku Opens Up On His Move From Inter To Chelsea

Chelsea’s €115 million man, Romelu Lukaku, has shed more light on to the events that triggered his move from Inter Milan to Stamford Bridge this summer.

In a recent interview with Hln.be, the Belgium international revealed that he asked for a move to London after spending two years in Italy and could only have left the San Siro outfit for Chelsea.

The Champions League holders had been in the market for some time following Timo Werner’s underwhelming campaign last summer. After the London based club was priced out of a move for Erling Haaland, they turned towards Lukaku who couldn’t turn down the offer to return to the club he first appeared for when he was 18.

“With Chelsea’s third offer, I knew it was serious and I wasn’t there anymore,” Lukaku revealed.

“Chelsea offered €110m plus Zappacosta, but Inter said no, so I went to [Simone] Inzaghi’s office asking to find an agreement.

“I didn’t want to ruin the atmosphere because I was no longer with my head in Milan.

“I told Inzaghi: ‘Inter pulled me out of sh*t, but I wanna leave only because of Chelsea.”

Lukaku rediscovered his form at Inter following an underwhelming spell at Manchester United. He scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Nerazzurri whilst winning the league title with the club last season.

Since returning to England, he has appeared in the score sheet once in two appearances.

Meanwhile…

Inter Milan’s South American contingent might not be able to feature in the club’s next Serie A fixture due to issues with the time of their arrivals from their respective nations’ World Cup qualifying games.

The Nerazzurri face Sampdoria on Sunday, September 12, three days after Uruguay host Ecuador and two days after Chile and Argentina face Colombia and Bolivia respectively.

It means that Inter will not have Arturo Vidal, Lautaro Martinez and new signing, Joaquin Correa until Saturday, a day before the Sampdoria game.

Uruguay’s Matias Vecino could return a couple of days before the match, but his condition will need to be assessed in order to know if he’ll be able to play a part in the game.
