More Details

The usual suspects, André-Pierre Gignac and Carlos Vela, led Tigres against LAFC. However, the Mexican, although having started, had to be substituted for by the Frenchman, who ultimately won the match.

Both the Monterrey and Los Angeles teams arrived in the hopes of winning a new trophy that would name them the top team playing soccer in Mexico and the United States. However, the club from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León emerged victorious in an exciting game that required a penalty shootout due to a score of 0-0.

With this, Tigres wins its second Campeones Cup title, underscoring once more how good it has been recently as one of the top teams in Mexican soccer.

Since Tigres were taken away by penalties despite the match ending with a 0-0 in normal time, the final and overall score was 4-2 in Tigres’ favor.

In a sort of battle to determine which side is the finest in North America, the Campeones Cup 2023 pitted the Champion of Champions of Liga MX, in this case Tigres, against the most recent Champion of the MLS, which was LAFC.

John Herdman has been officially named the new coach of MLS based club Toronto FC. Starting on October 1st, the 48-year-old will take over as Toronto FC’s next head coach in the MLS.

Herdman became the coach of Canada in January 2018 before leading the North American giants to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance in 36 years.

“I’m keen to start this new opportunity with Toronto FC,” he said. “It’s the right time for a new challenge.” Toronto fired former head coach Bob Bradley in June and are currently towards the bottom of the MLS standings.
