The pressure finally paid off in the 17th minute when the ball ended at the legs of Fabian Ruiz after the Rossoblu’s attempt to play out from defense went wrong. Ruiz wasted no time as he calmly struck the ball into the upper corner of the net, putting Napoli up 1-0.
Napoli won’t stop at this, so they kept their shape and rhythm but failed to hit the target until Gary Medel was judged by the referee through VAR for using his arm to reach the ball before Osimhen.
Lorenzo Insigne converted the penalty after 41 minutes giving Napoli a two-goal lead at half-time.
Musa Barrow in the second half nearly halved the deficit as the Gambia international made a nice cut inside the box to create space, but his subsequent shot flew just right of the net.
Osimhen again won his side another penalty when he was brought down by Ibrahmia Mbaye in the area when the two were battling for the ball in the 59th minute.
Insigne stepped up for the second time and smashed it into the bottom corner.
A sliding victory for Napoli who immediately go back to the top of the table with a better goal difference to Milan who also are on 28 points making this their ninth win and their seventh clean sheet.
Meanwhile…
Napoli captain, Lorenzo Insigne revealed their performance against Bologna was a response for the championship.
The protagonist scored a brace from the spot to give his team the win in the absence of Luciano Spalletti who was red carded and later suspended for clapping at the referee after their goalless draw away to Roma.
“The road is long but we have achieved an important success. We are 9 wins and a draw that can be in Rome”
“The group is competitive, those who go on the pitch demonstrate their value and our strength is that of the entire squad. Insigne said.
“I kicked the penalties with confidence and I’m always ready to take responsibility. I thank Spalletti for his trust and I’m happy to have scored especially for the team.
“Now we have to continue like this, let’s just think about our path and focus on every race to the fullest”
