On July 22, Callaghan, who served as interim manager for the USMNT in 2023 and is an assistant to head coach Gregg Berhalter of the men’s national team, will formally join the team. Nine days later, on April 9, he will make his Nashville Leagues Cup debut against Liga MX team Mazatlán.

“We are so excited to usher in this new era for Nashville Soccer Club with B.J. as our head coach,” said general manager Mike Jacobs in a press release.“B.J. has a tremendous amount of experience that spans all levels of soccer at the highest levels of the game and has excelled throughout the MLS ecosystem.

“He is an exceptional leader who gets the most out of the players and teams that he has coached and brings a hard-working and relentless mentality to our club. B.J. is ready for this opportunity to continue to build and develop a winning culture and is the right person to drive our club’s ambition for success.”

Rumba Munthali, an interim manager, has been in charge of Nashville since longtime head coach Gary Smith left in May.

Smith led Nashville to four consecutive Audi MLS Cup Playoff berths and the 2023 Leagues Cup final. Smith had led the team from its United Soccer League days until their first Major League Soccer season in 2020.

With a club option for 2027, the 24-year-old Brazilian is now signed through the 2026 MLS season.
