Negotiations Hit Snag Between Barcelona And Manchester City For Portuguese Defender

Negotiations for João Cancelo’s transfer from Manchester City to Barcelona have hit a snag. Despite a successful loan spell in Catalonia last season, where Cancelo impressed and desires a permanent stay, the two clubs haven’t reached an agreement.
More Details
Barcelona prioritize signing Cancelo, but their financial constraints are a significant hurdle. Manchester City, while open to offloading the player, are holding firm on their €30 million valuation. This price tag proves too much for Barcelona at the moment.
Consequently, Barcelona might propose an alternative deal. They could offer another loan for Cancelo with a mandatory purchase clause set for the end of the 2024/25 season. This option would involve a lower transfer fee, potentially closer to €20 million, but City’s acceptance remains to be seen.
With Cancelo’s contract with City valid until 2027, the saga regarding his future club is likely to continue for a while longer.
Meanwhile…
The future of Napoli’s star winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, is shrouded in speculation. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping a watchful eye as rumors swirl about the 23-year-old’s potential departure.
While leading Georgia’s attack at their historic Euro 2024 debut takes priority, a decision on Kvaratskhelia’s club future is expected after the tournament. Napoli’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has opened the door for offers. With a price tag of around €80 million, the Italian club seems receptive to letting him go.

The constant coaching changes at Napoli, with Antonio Conte being the fourth manager in just a year, have further muddied the waters. Adding fuel to the fire, Kvaratskhelia’s father and agent hinted at a desire for a new challenge, suggesting a potential transfer could be on the horizon.
