It is about to be a busy summer transfer window for Italian Serie A side, Atalanta as they’re about to finalize the sales of Mateo Retegui to to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah for a whopping €67m after just one season in Bergamo as he was signed from Genoa and won the Capocannoniere award in the 2024-25 season.

That was enough to earn him another move one year after, this time around to the Middle East as he will become Atalanta’s second most expensive sale of all time, behind Rasmus Hojlund, who left Bergamo to join Manchester United in a deal worth €75m plus up to €10m in bonuses in the summer of 2023.

His exit would leave a huge hole in attack for the La Dea and now, the club is ready to make a move as reports claim that they already have three players on their shortlist to replace the departing Italian forward, including the Roma-linked Evan Ferguson and Georges Mikautadze from Lyon.

Indeed, Retegui’s exit will leave Ivan Juric in need of a new centre-forward to compete with Gianluca Scamacca and they could decide to sign two new strikers this summer, but will rely on the re-established Scamacca for 2025-26 season after the striker spent the entirety of the previous campaign on the sidelines while recovering from a knee injury.

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta already have three centre-forwards in mind. Among them is Republic of Ireland international Evan Ferguson from Brighton and Hove Albion, who has also recently been linked with a loan move to join Roma, coincidentally coached by former Atalanta tactician Gian Piero Gasperini.

Unlike the Giallorossi, Atalanta will be in a better position to sign the player as they can offer Brighton a permanent deal for Ferguson and Di Marzio adds that Lyon striker and Georgia international Georges Mikautadze is also a potential option too and the third possible scenario is the signing of Lorenzo Lucca.

For the tall lanky forward Italian forward, he has been linked with a move to join Antonio Conte’s Napoli for the majority of the transfer window so far, and more transfer targets could emerge for Atalanta, as their attacking strategy will also depend on Ademola Lookman’s future and could potentially change how they line up in attack.

The Nigerian forward has been linked with a move to Arsenal, hence, for Atalanta, new names have been added to the list with Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Adam Daghim. Raspadori has been an Atalanta target since last summer; likewise, Daghim of Salzburg is somebody the club has been following for a while.
