Following an active summer window, Eddie Howe is eyeing additional signings to bolster Newcastle’s push for a second consecutive year of Champions League qualification. To strengthen the squad, the Magpies are targeting players with proven Premier League pedigree, specifically looking to capitalize on the struggles of a rival club.
According to a report by Lee Ryder for Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have set their sights on Wolves duo Jorgen Strand Larsen and Mateus Mane.
The Magpies’ head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, was reportedly in attendance during Wolves’ recent 3-0 victory over West Ham to personally scout the pair. While Eddie Howe is expected to have significant transfer funds available for the January window, securing Larsen’s signature could require a substantial investment of roughly £50 million.
After failing with a heavy £55 million pursuit a few months ago, Newcastle may find the path to signing Strand Larsen much cheaper due to Wolves’ current struggles. However, competition remains stiff, with both Spurs and Brentford reportedly in the hunt.

It has been a season of two halves for the forward; while he was hailed as “incredible” for his 14-goal haul last year, the ongoing speculation surrounding his future appears to have stalled his momentum, leaving him scoreless so far this season.
Mane is a rising talent at Wolves, starting three consecutive games under Rob Edwards despite his limited experience. Newcastle’s growth is currently hitting a ceiling due to financial regulations, making a return to the Champions League essential for future investment.
Adding players like Mane and Larsen would strengthen the squad, but it is debatable if they are the “game-changers” Newcastle truly requires. If available at a fair valuation, however, they represent a practical solution for Howe’s immediate tactical needs..
